training is a key element of sensible risk management. Training, if
carefully planned and delivered, provides staff with the
information, knowledge and skills they need to identify and make
judgements about risks they may encounter in the workplace. It
enables them to recognise risks and empowers them to take
appropriate actions to avoid or control those risks.
Training is an important part of creating and maintaining a health
and safety culture, it sends a powerful message about an
organisation's attitude towards health and safety issues. No or
inadequate training increases the risk of accidents, incidents,
staff absenteeism and compensation claims.
